Natural wood and a clear formal language are the Secto Design light fixtures' main features. For over 20 years, the Finnish design label has been standing for sustainable, highly recognizable light fixtures and a warm, cozy lighting.
All Secto lights are made of Finnish birch wood, from PEFC certified, sustainable forest management. The light fixtures are also entirely manufactured in Finland, in the company-operated Sectomo workshops in the small town of Heinola. The company demonstrates its attachment to Scandinavian handcrafting tradition and its high demand for quality, sustainability and social responsability.
Secto designer lights' history started in 1995, when Seppo Koho, at that time a design student, and the Secto founder Tuula Jusélius met at a university event. It soon evolved into a creative partnership and the first products were conceived. In the beginning, there was modern wooden furniture, yet what was missing on the market were matching wooden light fixtures. Seppo Koho's first creation of the kind was the suspension Secto. Further models which now cover every significant types of lights followed.
In order to create feather-light light fixtures flooded with light with solid and opaque wood, Secto Design uses slender slats of pressed laminated wood, forming bodies which are partly closed, partly pierced with holes. The light is made glare-free, spread and guided in an intuitive manner. At the same time, the lights' precise appearance and the light birch wood's welcoming warmth are a delight. Depending on the version, it is available with its natural surface, covered with contrasting veneer and laminates. The unique, light Secto designs benefit from insides featuring darker colour schemes.
In terms of lighting technique, Secto is state-of-the-art. The light fixtures are meant for using energy-efficient LED lamps or already feature permanently integrated LED modules. Many modules are dimmable and can be integrated in DALI systems with the suitable dimmer. This contributes to Secto's appeal for lighting concepts in large, public spaces, restaurants and cafes. However, the Secto lights are also appealing in the private sector: over dining tables and seating corners, on sideboards in the living rooms, at the head of the bed and everywhere where a welcoming lighting accent with Scandinavian touch is desired.
All Secto light fixtures feature a hologram sticker serving as authenticity characteristic since december 2017.
