Mario Melocchi

Mario Melocchi

Mario Melocchi was born in 1931 in Parma, a large town located in the southeast of Milan, and was one of the first to dedicate himself to packaging design in Europe. He acquired a taste for product design, before he founded the Cini & Nils lighting manufacture together with Franco Bettonica in 1969. He created numerous light fixtures for the Italian brand and co-designed many collections.

Mario Melocchi conceived the impressive, diamond-like, sparkling Collier suspensions which set an opulent design statement above dining tables in high-class interiors. Together with his business partner, in 1972, he launched the foldable cube-shaped Cuboluce light, devised by Bettonica, which encountered international success and is still a top seller by Cini & Nils.

The designer died in 2013 in Milan.
