Ramòn Benedito

Ramón Benedito was born in Barcelona in 1949 and lives in Sant Cugat del Vallés where his office is located. The Spaniard is active in the fields of industrial, furniture and packaging design. He designed the Funnel ceiling lamp for Vibia in 1996, one of the Spanish brand's best-selling lamps. Benedito has won numerous awards and distinctions for his work.

Benedito completed his studies at the Elisava Design School in Barcelona. At the beginning of his career, he worked with solid plastic objects and was very soon highly respected as an industrial designer on the Iberic peninsula. He founded his design studio "Benedito Design" in 1979 and has been leading it until this day together with Maite Prat. The studio's fields of activity in product development are electronics, computer technique, engineering, furniture and light design and more. From 1983 to 1989, he was co-founder of Transatlantic, a group researching technology and design, famous for its experimental work style. The two product designers and business owners, Ramón Benedito and Maite Prat, moved their office from Barcelona to Sant Cugat del Vallés in 2000. Ramón Benedito also teaches at Barcelona's universities. Benedito's daughter Gae has been involved in the studio since 2004.

Because of the extraodinarily diverse product range, Benedito Design is highly demanded by international companies operating in the fields of telecommunication, optics, microelectronics or science. Ramón Benedito's most famous designs are the Modular Bench for Escofet (1979), the Funnel collection for Vibia, the Aurum shower (2004) and the Hall bath collection for Roca (2006). Benedito's designs have earned many awards, like the Spanish National Design Prize in 1992 and the Valencia Innovation Award in 1991. They have also been displayed at international exhibitions in Santiago de Chile, Shanghai, Tokyo and Valencia.
