Ron Gilad

Ron Gilad was born in Tel Aviv in 1972 and graduated in industrial design from the Bezalel Academy for Art and Design in Jerusalem. In 2001, he moved to New York and started to teach at Pratt Institute of New York in 2006. After some years in the United States, he now works and lives in Tel Aviv and Milan.

In the years 2017 and 2018 Gilad was creative director of the historical design house Danese Milano. During this time, he designed some objects for daily use such as watches, kitchen accessoires and decorative objects. Many fancy objects, whether a series of blown glasses and decanters or exquisite pieces of furniture, resulted from a collaboration with other renowned companies. For the brand Flos, he designed the popular Goldman table lamp, reminiscent of classical bankers desk lights. For the Dutch company Moooi, he designed the suspension Dear Ingo in 2003 as an homage to the designer Ingo Maurer.

His works are characterized by abstraction and function. He translates everyday things with inventive talent and humor into objects endowed with aesthetic cheerfulness and functional minimalism. His creative art connects his abstract artistic visions with the requirements on commercial industrial products. The result are brilliant designs that question our perception and at the same time possess a functional value.

His works are timeless and exhibited in public and private collections worldwide. They are part of the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and of the Tel Aviv Museum of Art. In 2013, he was distinguished in the categories Designer of the Year and Best Domestic Design with the Wallpaper Award. In addition, he received the Elle Décor International Design Award in the category Designer of the Year and Furniture Design.
