FontanaArte
Mano Collection

Design by Pietro Chiesa

A design icon from 1932 full of character: Table lamp FontanaArte Mano by Pietro Chiesa combines classical elements of lamp design with a freedom of artistic expression and leads to a spirited vanguard product, that is to become again popular today. The lamp has a base made of marble powder and resin, above there is a square section stem made of metal, both being painted "soft" matt black. The shade is classically conical and covered in black fabric, while inside it is lined in white PVC. The sculptural hand, which seemingly grabs the lamp's stem, is in white marble powder and resin. The surpising element of FontanaArte Mano is the fact that it looks authentic while following a clearly artistic intention. At the same time the contrast of the colours black and white mark a stylized approach.

Pietro Chiesa rose at the beginning of the 20th century from a glassworker to a highly appreciated designer. He created several products for the traditional manufacturer FontanaArte, furniture, lamps, glass and objets d'arts. Many of these products are still to be found in the repertoire of the inimitable Italian label.
