Zanini De Zanine

The industrial designer Zanini De Zanine was born in 1978 in Rio de Janeiro and from his father Jose Zanine Caldas, a successful Brazilian architect and sculptor, learned from the cradle how to use natural materials and shapes. In Sergio Rodriguez' studio, Zanini completed his education and crafted his first piece of furniture. He graduated in Industrial Design from the PUC of Rio in 2002. Since 2003, Zanini De Zanine has been producing pieces of furniture and other design objects, and started with serial production from 2005. His wooden furniture are referred to as "Contemporary Carpentry" because they are composed of recycled and durable wood. His objects are also made of synthetics, acrylics, metals or discarded objects of daily use. He founded the Studio Zanini in 2011.

The designer's works are coined with traditions of modern Brazilian design and based on a spiritual and physical relationship to nature. Because he is conscious of the environmental impacts on his huge country's diverse landscape, he commits himself to using sustainable materials. He also works with materials from pulled down houses and also experiments with uncommon materials like ceramics or woven textiles.

Zanini De Zanine received prestigious prizes in Brazil and abroad. He was elected Designer of the Year by Maison & Objets America in 2015. His works were already presented in famous exhibitions, among them the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Museum of Arts and Design in New York City. Zanini works today in collaboration with the most famous brands worldwide, such as the light brand Slamp.
