Jehs + Laub

Markus Jehs, born in 1965 in Stuttgart and Jürgen Laub, born in 1964 in Ulm, are German industrial designers operating their own office in Stuttgart. They very successfully develop seats, chairs and light fixtures for renowned design brands.

Already while studying at the School for Art and Design in Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany, the designers met, made both an internship in New York in 1990 and graduated in product design in 1992. In 1994, they founded their own design studio jehs+laub and started to design furniture for Italian light and furniture companies. The collaboration with Nemo from which many light fixtures resulted, among them Crown, a successful, modern interpretation of the classical chandelier, started in 1996. In Germany, they worked on office and living space furniture for Renz, Schönbuch and Thonet. The collaboration with further international brands like Mercedes-Benz came in addition in the course of the years.

Quality and timelessness are two significant design principles by jehs+laub, that are reflected in their designs - you will look for fashionable knick knacks in vain. Their objects, influenced by the Bauhaus tradition, are sculptural, functional and unique. Their main endeavour is not to separate the object from its essential form and function and, for this reason, to renounce superfluous styling. A quoted guiding principle of the designers is that function delivers its own aesthetics.

Jehs+Laub won several awards. For their successful A-Chair, they received the Red Dot Design Award in the category Best of Best and the iF Product Design Award. For other creations, they won among others the German Design Award and the coveted Compasso d'Oro.
