Francesca Smiraglia

Francesca Smiraglia

Francesca Smiraglia was born in 1983 and is an Italian designer who graduated in industrial design from the Politechnico di Milano with a speciality in product and light design. She lives and works in Milan and southern Italy.

In 2016, she opened her own studio for artistic direction in the fields of product design, lighting, interior decoration, illustration and brand identity. Smiraglia is always on the search for possibilities to enlarge her knowledge and develop new methods of the "design thinking" to implement transverse projects and ideas.

With her work, Francesca Smiraglia explores the relationships between human being and environment in consideration of formal aesthetics and products' functionality. The light fixtures she designs are feminine, striking and up-to-date - they illuminate and decorate at the same time and are part of the domestic context in a lively and elegant way. The Italian designer draws inspiration from unlimited sources. For the Kate light, designed by Francesca Smiraglia for Kundalini (Kdln), a hat worn by the Duchess of Cambridge served as a source of inspiration. Her products fulfill an architectonical and at the same time decorative value, which is consistent with Kundalini's vision and led to some fruitful light projects with the Italian light label.
