Bocci
84V Collection

Design by Omer Arbel

The lighting objects 84V by Bocci combine glass and copper wire in a design, the complexity of which is revealed in the details. The collection uses the same method as the model 84, yet uses somewhat wider, flattened diffusers. It comprises several suspensions, ceiling lamps and floor lamps, featuring diffusers arranged along a linear metallic structure. The design is signed by Omer Arbel.

For 84V, Bocci uses specially developed techniques to combine glass and metallic wire into a unity, despite their different ductilities in heated state. For this purpose, white glass is inserted in a basket of thin copper wire and is soaked in clear glass. When the glass blower blows air in this mould, the white glass is gently pressed through the mesh of the copper net and forms delicate cloud-like bellies inside the thick transparent glass. The folds created by the copper net are also visible. This detail is different for each example of 84V and makes them absolutely unique. Also the small air bubbles of white glass, some air inclusions and the glass shade's shape are different for each light fixture. These imperfections and unforseeable details lend the 84V lighting objects the character of a smoke cloud floating delicately and with lightness in the room taken as a snapshot.

It must be considered that 84V spreads a rather atmospherical light, not strong enough to brighten a room, but first of all emphasizing the glass diffuser´s material. Bocci 84V is a rather artistic lighting object than a light fixture in the traditional sense. The copper net lends the light a reddish warm note.

The vertical floor lamps and ceiling lamps are, on request, available in further lengths, especially suited for the project area, for rooms with very high ceilings, atriums and stairwells, hotel foyers and other high-class spaces.
