About the Collection Bocci 57
The lighting objects of collection 57 by Bocci feature several glass balls that literally melt into an abstract cloud shape with soft bulges. The fascinating design by Omer Arbel was developed in 2012 and has been included in the Bocci portfolio since 2015. The collection comprises mainly suspensions in all variations, enabling the most different designs, and ceiling lamps, wall lamps, table lamps and floor lamps.
Several blown glass balls put together form the diffuser of 57. In this elaborate process, the glass is heated several times and shaped again and again, until the body of layered glass with inclusion of air pockets is considered perfect by the glass artist. At first, several small glass balls are placed on a blown ball and pressed under heat in the body. Finally, the whole shape is soaked in melted glass until completely coated. The achieved object has an unbroken, smooth surface with organical, soft curves. When the light is turned off, it seems to be a single solid compound. However, when the light is on, the extraordinary inner life is revealed. Next to the balls, embedded between the glass layers and forming air pockets, small air bubbles and inclusions impact on each light fixture's individual character.
57 illustrates Bocci's preference for an adventurous creation process controlled by the artist. The glass blower decides where each ball should be placed and how it will be modified with heat. His fantasy and his mood of the day determine the light's final shape. No two 57 are alike.
The 57 lighting objects gain even more character thanks to the choice between grey and opaline glass, and finally also thanks to the different available kinds of mountings and suspension systems with which fantastic installations can be achieved. Many arrangements are reminiscent of bulging clouds, other of mysterious plants and fantastic creatures.
The suspensions have a rounded cap of cast borosilicate glass on their glass body that naturally adapts to the whole. It contains the lamp and the suspension, while the coaxial cable goes sideways from the cap so that it does not have a central position when the light is suspended but sits sideways on the glass body, creating an asymmetry and emphasizing the design cheerfulness.
Other models have discreet, straight metallic structures on which the diffusers are placed at diverse distances and in various directions.
For demanding lighting objects in the project area, other versions, conceived for very high ceilings and rooms of generous dimensions are available on request. Depending on the desired suspension, the pendant light can have up to 61 glass bodies and cables of special lengths up to 24 or 30 m. Please, note that for multiple suspensions featuring more than a certain number of diffusers, the pendant height cannot be determined by the user himself, but by Bocci. When ordering, the shortest and the highest cable lengths must be mentioned.
The LED light of Bocci 57 is not strong enough to brighten a room as a primary light source. It is first of all an atmospherical light that emphasizes the beauty of the glass diffusers and puts the lighting object with a mysterious shimmering full of atmosphere to the fore.
