The lighting objects of the collection 44 by Bocci connect small round glass diffusers with coral-like metallic structures. The design by Omer Arbel does not require cables because the aluminium bodies conducts low voltage current. Next to the here offered table lamp and suspension, further suspensions are also possible.
The aluminium body's extraordinary shape is made by hand with an extraordinary process. The melted aluminium is cast in a vessel, filled with sand crubs soaked in artificial resin, a by-product of the sand cast process. The melted metal passes in the irregular spaces between the brocken pieces where it gets cold. Each aluminium body obtained in such a manner is a unique piece with random, non-replicable shape. Due to the manufacturing, the surface also features individual imperfections, for example rough textures and small broken edges.
The diffusers are shiny opaline glass balls and establish a magical contrast to the metallic structures that are holding them. The suspensions always have a diffuser serving as a link between two aluminium bodies. Because low-voltage is used and metal is conductive, additional electrical cables are not necessary. The cable suspension is also unobtrusive so that the Bocci 44 lighting objects seem to float and shine.
The organical, branching out shapes are similar to corals and climbing plants. Combined with the soft, lighting glass balls, they exude something mystical, a fascinating play of light and shadow emphasizes each detail and enchants the whole room.
The LED light by Bocci 44 is not strong enough to illuminate a room as a primary light source. The objects are rather lighting sculptures that decorate the room and use their light first of all to showcase their beauty.
During the manufacturing process, it is possible that many ends of the aluminium body get loose and come off. Generally they are removed prior to being delivered. Should the light fixture have loose pieces, they can be removed carefree prior to being installed.
