About the Collection Wästberg w223 Pawson
The LED table lamp w223 Pawson by Wästberg is a small sculptural luminaire made of marble or aluminium, each material with its own unique properties. It was designed by the English designer John Pawson.
The lamp has a compact body with linear and curved shapes in perfect harmony. The design thrives on contrasts - between curves and straight edges, solid material and bright light. Despite their identical size and silhouette, the two material versions differ greatly in terms of lighting effect and character.
The marble version exudes weight and sublime beauty. In addition to the downward light that both versions emit, the translucency of the marble provides a soft shimmer. Skilled craftsmen ensure that the special qualities of the marble are enhanced, giving w223 Pawson great expressiveness and complexity.
The aluminium version is lighter in several respects. Although the material itself is not translucent, the body is hollow and partly open, so that the illuminated interior becomes visible. This version, too, demonstrates high-quality workmanship. The seamless surface is a metallurgical work of art, with an elegant matte finish and mesmerizing play of light.
The integrated LED, which sits behind a polycarbonate lens, has a particularly warm white light colour with very good colour rendering. The result is a cosy, warm light with natural colour nuances and textures. The brightness can be easily changed using a dimmer on the power cable.
Its small size allows Pawson to find space on narrow window sills, small bedside tables or on shelves, where it sets glare-free, soft lighting accents and, with its distinctive design, has a decorative effect even when switched off.
Marble is a natural material with a unique grain pattern. Colour and marbling are different for each lamp. Each luminaire is a unique piece with its own character.
The marble version is significantly heavier than the aluminium version.
