About the Collection Tecnolumen Trabant

Trabant by Tecnolumen is a very surprising suspension, designed by Joachim Manz in 2008. Its principle is surprisingly simple, but very efficient. A concrete ball featuring a fascinating structure is suspended on a thin metallic cable. One segment below has been replaced by a high-quality glass lens which spreads the light evenly downwards.

The collection comprises ball-shaped suspensions with three different diameters which shine directly downwards or can be shifted sideways.

Especially Trabant's material breaks with all conventions. Joachim Manz volontarily does without a mechanic densifying of concrete. The concrete is cast and densified by hand instead, the resulting very smooth ball is irregularly sown with holes and air inclusions. This irregular, lively surface of the concrete body makes a unique piece of each exemplar.

Trabant was awarded the iF Product Design Award 2009 and the Design Plus Award 2010.
