Artemide designer lights are synonymous with high-quality design made in Italy. In the course of its history, the company with headquarters in Pregnana, Milanese, has developed into one of the leading manufacturers of design lamps, also known worldwide as Artemide design lamps . The company was founded in 1960 in Milan by Ernesto Gismondi and Sergio Mazza and stands for iconic light fixtures made in Italy, which offer an outstanding design in conjunction with the newest technologies. Thanks to its leading position, the company was able to develop Artemide light fixtures for home and office use, which nowadays are considered true light design classics. One of the best example is the Tolomeo.
Be it as aceiling lamp, suspension lamp, wall lamp, table lamp or floor lamps, design made by Artemide have as a rule all become classics in their own right. According to Ernesto Gismondi the origin and the tradition of Artemide are the key of its success. This, alongside the on-going innovations, constitutes the message behind "light for generations". It is exemplified by three iconic lamps: The table lamp Tizio by Richard Sapper, since 1972 a must, not only for architects. The functional desk lamp Tolomeo (1987) by Michele de Lucchi, one of the most sold light fixtures in the last fifty years. There is also the Artemide LED lamp Demetra by the Japanese designer Naoto Fukasawa. The guiding principle could be summed up as continuity in innovation. This applies to the illuminants , which accompany lamp design from the bulb to the LED. It equally holds true for the designers who have been the longtime companions of Artemide. Ernesto Gismondi pays tribut to them with the campaign "A Tribute to Light". With a series of artistic photographs by Elliot Erwitt, Artemide presented the creations of internationally renowned designers such as Karim Rashid, Ross Lovegrove, Michele De Lucchi, Richard Sapper or Carlotta de Bevilacqua.
Human beings are placed at the core by the Artemide Group, as crystallized by its corporate slogan "The Human Light". The light must meet people's expectations - through design, innovation and the claim Made in Italy. This philosophy has had its finger on the pulse - for decades. It therefore comes as no great surprise that Artemide was awarded the Compasso d'Oro, alongside other awards like the red dot award or the iF design award. It also received the Chicago Good Design award in 2010. Alongside the division Artemide design lamps, the company group also has an Artemide Architectural division specializing in the commercial sector like offices, stores and hotels and an Artemide Outdoor division that focuses on the outdoor areas. For all three divisions, the awareness of the importance of low resource consumption can be considered high. The italian company was one of the very first to understand the importance of LED lamps and to integrate them into its collection. It was the beginning of a new generation of Artemide lights, completely omitting standard lamps. The best examples are innovative collections like Tolomeo LED, Mercury or Pirce. The company stands true to its philosophy and carries its tradition and origin forward - from the Sospensione to the Soffito, the Parete to the Lettura and Tavolo.
