Northern
Birdy Collection

Design by Birger Dahl

The Birdy Collection by Northern is the reedition of a Scandinavian classic by Norvegian designer Birger Dahl. It appeals with an elegant, timeless shape and offers directable reading light.

Originally, when it came on the market in 1952, the table lamp was simply named "s-30016". The light fixture was named "Birdy" only when it was reedited by Northern in 2013. It refers to the light's delicate shape which is reminiscent of a bird. The funnel-like shade is in oblique position on a slender arm which seems to balance on a vertical light stem and protrudes in the back. The coloured handle at the stem's end, where the electrical cable starts, has the appearance of a bird's tail feathers and the shade of a bird's head.

Today, the Birdy collection includes a table lamp, a floor lamp and two wall lamps as well as the floor and table lamps Birdy Swing with simplified, laterally swivelling structure. All models rely on clearness and harmony, on timeless colours and materials.
