As a member of the large Italian Poltrona Frau Group, with divisions like Cassina or Cappelini, the young lighting manufacturer Nemo can rely on a rich collection of talent, experience and Italian design know-how.
Thanks to their stylistic clarity, Nemo lamps are timeless classics of modern time, architectural stylistic devices that can set an accent in any room. At the same time, Nemo never loses sight of the lamps' original purpose: illuminating rooms with excellent light. Nemo lamps have been characterized by the continuous pursuit of technological and qualitative perfection. Nemo is also careful with their choice of illuminants, and by now often uses LEDs to offer lighting solutions that are suitable for modern times, with increased light efficiency and energy savings.
Since its foundation in 1993 by Franco Cassina and Carlo Forcolini, Nemo Cassina has been offering lamps for private spaces and offices as well as for public areas such as hotels or theatres. The distinct shapes and modern materials of Nemo lamps and lighting systems are created by world-famous designers and architects like Vico Magistretti, Jehs&Laub, Norman Foster or Karim Rashid. With the introduction of the series 'Classici' in 2008, Nemo also refers back to designs of old masters like Franco Albini, Le Corbusier or Kazuide Takahama.
Other milestones of the company history are the acquisition of Italiana Luce in 1998, which has produced many design classics such as Dove by Barbaglia and Jazz by Porsche Design: the acquisition of Meltemi with a large portfolio of lamps made of opal glass for use in public and commercial areas such as hotels; and the merger with parent company Poltrona Frau, as well as the purchase of the historical Sirrah collection from iGuzzini in 2008.
An excellent example of Nemo's style is the lamp series Ara. The floor lamps of this collection sport a streamlined, minimalistic shape and manage to fulfil several lighting functions at once: an adjustable reflector can illuminate corners or set other accents, while an uplight floods the ceiling with light. Ara is available with different kinds of illuminants, including LEDs. Another notable design is the Crown collection, extraordinary modern chandeliers with complex shapes and often impressive dimensions.
