Moooi
Random Light Collection

Design by Bertjan Pot

The light fixtures Random Light by Moooi are versatile designer classics. Bertjan Pot designed them already in 2001, but meanwhile the lights are available as technologically reviewed version Random Light II. The collection comprises suspensions and floor lamps in several sizes, among them the modified design Non Random Light and its LED version NR2. All models are available in black or white.

Bertjan Pot is famous for his innovative and cheerful work with textiles. For these light fixtures, he twisted glass fiber yarn dipped in synthetic resin around an inflatable ball, waited until it hardened and removed the ball to obtain only a soft shell of crossing yarns. Random Light's yarn is twisted according to a random pattern. Non Random Light has a regular pattern shaped mechanically. In both cases, a fascinatingly complex shade, reducing the light glare and spreading it diffusely in the room is created. The structures and suspensions feature a simple design so that the filigreed diffuser attracts the whole attention.

Each Random Light is a unique light with individual patterns and a lively shadow interplay. Their diffusers are never exactly ball-shaped, but testify of their manufacturing with unique details. The diffuser is closed all around, except for a round aperture on top sideways, serving to ease relamping.
