Moooi
Hubble Bubble Collection

Design by Marcel Wanders

The LED suspensions Hubble Bubble by Moooi were designed in 2020 by Marcel Wanders and captured the beauty of floating soap bubbles. The collection comprises suspensions in two sizes and two glass versions. They can be suspended as desired horizontally, vertically or obliquely. In this way, several lights can form completely customized groups.

The glass diffusers are made of blown glass. They are located at irregular distance inside and outside a thin metallic ring. Each light fixture has balls in three sizes and therefore seems asymmetrical as if manufactured haphazardly. The white satined glass surface ensures a harmonious general impression and a soft, diffuse light. The version with shimmering, iridescent surfaces enhances the design's complexity and reinforces its similarity with soap bubbles. A diffuser inside the balls provides also here a glare-free and even light distribution.

The metallic frame is remarkably thin. It is made possible by using the Electrosandwich technology developped by Marcel Wanders that has the conductors embedded directly in the structure so that no additional electrical cable is required. Also the suspension is very subtle and ensured by two or three cables. With the third cable, the ring is positioned obliquely or horizontally. Two cables are enough for a vertical position.

The especially warm white colour temperature and high colour rendering of the integrated LEDs create a pleasant and welcoming illumination, as desired above all in living rooms, foyers and restaurants. It is a very smooth light, setting cozy accents, but does not completely brightens the room. The Hubble Bubble lights are a cheerful design statement that complements the illumination concepts with an individual lighting sculpture.
