The suspensions Emperor by Moooi were designed by Neri & Hu in 2009. The Chinese designer studio was inspired above all by old bird cages of bamboo and created an absolutely modern design with traditional materials and asiatic craftsmanship. The collection comprises suspensions of three different sizes, each available in red (RAL 3004) or black (RAL 9005).
The light fixtures are composed of two nested shades of bamboo rattan and of an internal diffuser of white glass. A black textile cable and a black synthetic ceiling rose complement the design.
Because the shades of a natural material are woven by hand, each light fixture is an unparalleled piece with unique details. Even when the light is turned off, the Emperor lights are very decorative because the thin bamboo strips cross many times and form a complex pattern that seems different depending on the point of view. When the light is turned on, they cast a magical shadow pattern and spread a diffuse, even illumination.
The three sizes are suitable for diverse uses and can also be combined into groups and light clusters. While the small Emperor S with a diameter of 60 cm perfectly adapts above the couch or dining tables, Emperor M with a diameter of 100 cm and Emperor L with a diameter of 160 cm can be used as a chandelier, and are suitable for large rooms with high ceiling and also in public spaces like foyers and restaurants. Light and material generate a feeling of warmth and safety and create a haven of peace in the room.
