About the Collection Louis Poulsen PH Artichoke
The PH Artichoke pendant lights are a Danish design classic from the 1950s and part of the extensive PH collection by Louis Poulsen. They were named after their creator Poul Henningsen, who originally designed them in 1958 for the Langelinie Pavillonen restaurant in Copenhagen, where the lights can still be seen today.
The PH Artichoke pendant lamp is the result of ten years of light and lighting studies and quickly became the epitome of functional, modern lighting. For Poul Henningsen, however, lights were not design objects. Through his work with a system of shades, he managed to direct the light with enormous precision. The PH lights express the desire to develop glare-free, efficient and harmonious lighting with a soft shadow effect.
The imposing shade of the PH Artichoke is composed of several scales that are reminiscent of a pine cone or an artichoke. They direct the light downwards and are a fantastic eye-catcher in rooms with high ceilings, as dining table lighting or in the bedroom, which is particularly emphasized by the materiality of the individual sheets.
The handcrafted Louis Poulsen pendant lamp PH Artichoke combines perfect symmetry and excellent light quality. Countless sheets of punched copper, punched steel or laser-cut stainless steel, which are accurately placed in several rows, guarantee absolutely glare-free light. The upper shade of the Louis Poulsen PH Artichoke pendant lamps is made of white, drawn steel, the connecting rods are made of high-gloss chrome-plated, laser-treated steel and the housing is made of high-gloss chrome-plated, drawn aluminum.
Today the pendant lamp is available in several sizes and in numerous metallic versions, so that it can be precisely matched to the furnishing style and the dimensions of the room. Modern versions with built-in LEDs are now also part of the collection.
The Louis Poulsen design lamp PH Artichoke is a classic in itself. Copied many times, but the perfection of the 72 sheets that are arranged in order to obtain a completely glare-free and extremely qualitative light has never been equalled.
