About the Collection Louis Poulsen Panthella

The white Panthella table lamp was designed by the designer and architect Verner Panton (1926-1998) and counts among the Scandinavian iconic lights.

The original Panthella table lamp with opaline white, translucent acrylic shade was designed in 1971 and manufactured by Louis Poulsen. The Panthella Mini equipped with a metallic shade unlike the original light followed in 2016. In 2020, the Danish manufacturer presented a new version of the Panthella floor lamp featuring minor adjustments compared to the original. In 2021, 50 years after the introduction of the original Panthella, the collection was extended with a new size: the middle-sized Panthella 320 has a diameter of 32 cm and optionally a metallic or acrylic shade.

The designer Verner Panton is famous for his cheerful, figurative designs that don't make compromises in terms of quality and function. When he created Panthella, Panton wanted to create a light fixture with both base and shade serving as reflecting parts. With Panthella, Verner Panton succeeded in creating a brillant design object that reflects its fabulous sense of atmospheric lighting. The stylish icone Panthella appeals with its organic, softly curved shape and its soft, glare-free light and is rightly considered an absolute designer classic. Regardless of their material, colour and size, the light fixtures in the Panthella collection decorate all interiors, whether working place, home, public exhibition, hotel or cocktail bar.

The hemispherical shade of the Louis Poulsen Panthella lights is harmoniously complemented with a slender, trumpet-like base of lacquered aluminium. The original Panthella table lamp consists of an acrylic diffuser through which the light passes directly downwards and diffusely through the shade.

The modern further development Panthella Mini with 25 cm of diameter instead of 40 cm of diameter differs in material and light source from the original. It has a metallic shade that does not let the light through, but only guides it downwards, and also integrated LEDs. A metallic shade was intended, but at that time technology was not advanced enough to enable it.

Panthella Mini is according to Verner Panton's last project "light and colour" available in several colours, and especially appeals to design aficionados with individualistic taste. However, there is still a Panthella Mini version with opaline white shade with the same lighting effect as the original light fixture.

The decorative Panthella table lamp is a splendid lighting object with a diameter of 40 cm and a height of 58 cm and, makes a considerable impression in the room. Panthella Mini, on the contrary, is smaller and can be placed on small sideboards or bedside tables. The remarkable Panthella floor lamp has also a synthetic shade with metallic base, and is suitable as a room illumination and reading light because of its soft, downwards directed light. The floor lamp was equipped with a new diffuser shade in the reviewed version, in order to hinder shadows on the opaline white shade.
