About the Collection Louis Poulsen Doo-Wop

The suspension Doo-Wop by Louis Poulsen is a discreet and simple designer light that is versatily usable thanks to its middle-size and light diffusion.

The fancy Doo-Wop originates from the 1950s. It was the result of a close collaboration between the building administration of the Danish Marine and Louis Poulsen. For years, the suspension was placed in offices and cafeterias in the Danish Marine building. This is why it is now known as the "Marine suspension" or "Navy suspension". Its outstanding illumination properties and the versatile uses turn Doo-Wop into a very popular product. This model was included in the Louis Poulsen catalog up to the early 1980s. The new version of the Doo-Wop light was put on the market in 2012 and remained true to the timelessly original design of the 1950s. Only the colours were updated, so that they meet the trend of our time. Since 2017, the suspension has been offered in new metallic versions, however the manufacturing process has remained unchanged.

The shades are turned by hand and closed with a slight vault which lends the shade a special, visual volume. The very shiny brass version is a handcrafted challenge, because it is made of a massive brass sheet and finally polished shiny.

Doo-Wop by Louis Poulsen spreads a mostly downwards directed light through the white lacquered, conical reflector. The external shade directs the light upwards and spreads a soft, diffuse illumination.

Please, note that the surfaces of brass, copper and stainless steel are not treated. This means that the surfaces change over time and that a natural patina appears. It is possible that this process already began when the product is delivered.
