Louis Poulsen
Above Collection

With the Above suspensions, the Danish designer Louis Poulsen presented his first cooperation with compatriot and designer Mads Odgård on the Stockholm Design Week 2017.

The latter designed the classical, graphically cheerful object as a deliberately minimalistic statement. Above is also a first rate example for reduced light design. Odgård is famous for his "less is more" design approach and creates formally reduced products for which function, shape and quality have been given equal importance. Instead of adding something new to the designer object during the creative process, the Dane prefers to take something away.

The shape of his Above light collection is determined by a graphic triangle. This conical shade is made of aluminium and has a matt lacquered surface finish and a white lacquered inner side. It radiates a pleasant, downward light. The Above design's highlight is located at the smaller upper end. The aperture has an arched element, to which the name "Above" refers. The black textile cable expressively passes through this aperture, while the light can also pass indirectly upwards. This discreet, subdued light illuminates the arch decoratively and is the light fixture's characteristic.

Mads Odgård and Louis Poulsen created a successful, stylish designer object with a wonderful lighting effect. The Louis Poulsen Above with E27 screw socket and the Above LED suspension with permanently installed LEDs are available.
