About the Collection Louis Poulsen AJ
The AJ table lamp by Louis Poulsen is a Danish design classic that's easily recognizable thanks to its striking silhouette. It was created by Arne Jacobsen, originally for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, which was known as Radisson Blu for a while and now has the name Radisson Collection Hotel, Royal Copenhagen. Jacobsen designed the hotel in 1960 as a Gesamtkunstwerk, createing not only the architecture but also the furniture and finally the lighting.
AJ is available as a table lamp, a floor lamp and as wall lamps for indoor or outdoor use. Since 2017, Louis Poulsen offers the iconic design in a large range of colours, with additional colours added in 2020.
All AJ reading lights sport the characteristic skewed lampshade, which gives off a downwards-directed light. Made of lacquered steel and die-cast zinc, refraining from small, sueperfluous details, AJ is characterized by functional clarity and timeless elegance.
The table and wall lamp feature an on/off switch located directly on the table base or wall socket, comfortably within reach. Another defining characteristic aside from the shade is the base of the table and floor lamp, with a round hole lending it an air of lightness.
