Foscarini
Mite Collection

Design by Marc Sadler

The Mite floor lamps by Foscarini possess a unique appeal thanks to their long, cup-shaped diffusers of glass fabric with yarn applications of yellow Kevlar® or black carbon fibre. The round base is made of nickel-plated steel. Mite Terra is the first light fixture ever to be made of innovative Kevlar® material, that is why the Mite collection was awarded the coveted Compasso d'Oro in 2001. The design is from Marc Sadler and was included in the Foscarini portfolio in 2000.

Mite's design is simple and fancy at the same time. The diffuser is slender below and gets broader to the top, while the light emitted by the lamp located at the tip illuminates the ceiling and creates a soft, indirect illumination. Besides, the light shines softly through the half-transparent light body and the light intensity can be varied.

20 years after winning the Compasso d'Oro, the Italian manufacturer Foscarini celebrated its designer classic, Mite, with a reviewed anniversary version: Mite Anniversario with a modified lighting technique. Two integrated LED strips fulfill two different functions. The first directs direct and diffuse light upwards, while the second LED strip illuminates the whole cup-shaped diffuser. The result is a broader light distribution and, at the same time, a higher efficiency and a reduced energy consumption.

The volume of the Mite Anniversario is identical to original, only the spiral-shaped carbon filaments are much thinner and more spaced apart from each other, while the space is even more reduced towards the base. Mite Anniversario's base made of refined black marble is different from the original version. The surfaces' finish of the Foscarini Mite Anniversary is rather matt than shiny and emphasizes the elegance and the decorative effect. The essential shape and the high decorative value of the hand-made Mite come best into one's own in private and public contexts.

Foscarini Mite is an object with a dynamic lighting effect, emphasized through the concentrical circles. It convinces with an unconventional material and shines in many contexts.
