Design by Max Ingrand

With the Fontana 1853 table lamp, FontanaArte and Max Ingrand have created a masterpiece of Italian lighting design. The lamp made of fine glass dates from 1954 and is still extremely popular today. While the unmistakable silhouette always remains the same, the light fixture is now available in several sizes and equipped with different technology.

The French glass painter and designer Max Ingrand, 1954 art director of the Italian lighting manufacturer FontanaArte, designed Fontana 1853. It is an incomparably elegant lamp made of fine glass, featuring a classic silhouette. Designed without frills or ornamental patterns, the table lamp works primarily through the harmonious proportions of the base and shade, but also through the elegance of the satined opaline glass.

The light's base and shade are equipped with lamps which are separately switchable. In this way, the lighting effect and the brightness of the light fixture can be controlled. The largest version is also equipped with a third light source: a reflector lamp that emits light directly upwards and thus indirectly illuminates the room.

Fontana is available in three sizes and also as a LED version. The largest version with a height of 78 cm can be placed on the floor, while the smallest lamp with a diameter of only 20 cm and a height of 34 cm can also be placed on narrow sideboards.

In 2019 FontanaArte also launched the original Light and Color versions of the design icon - it is now available in the matt colours light gray and violet (purple amethyst).
