About the Collection Flos Skygarden
The Skygarden suspensions by Flos have gained the status of a modern designer classic within a few years. Their opulent, dome-shaped shade with stucco appearance on the inside lends them a high recognition value.
The collection was designed by Marcel Wanders in 2007 and followed a romantic idea. The Dutch product designer was elated with the stucco ceiling in his old appartment and did not want to renounce this refined decoration after he moved. With Skygarden, he found a smart possibility, to decorate even minimalistic interiors with stucco, without creating a stylish contradiction or disturbing their modern character. While the shade dome's external side is simple, the inner side contains a filigreed floral relief, a microcosmos of artistic details featuring perfectly coordinated contrasts. This "stucco work" is true to the original style made of cast plaster and painted in white.
The lamp is located in a cylindrical glass diffuser, located in the dome's centre so that the light shines evenly and glare-free. Its artistically wrought aluminium cover provides a pleasant, glare-free, downward light and lends the light the finishing touches. The filigreed convoluted grid follows the formal language associated with the architecture of dignified old buildings. However, in the middle, there is a clown nose, Marcel Wanders hallmark, and a stylish break. His design philosophy is in some way put in a nutshell: magnificent and inspired by traditional shapes and materials, yet with the proper portion of humor, newly interpreted for a young generation.
While the light shade is opulently decorated inside, its external surface is simple, lacquered with liquid paint in various shiny or matt colours. This establishes a successful contrast. Skygarden creates a thrilling interaction with the room's architecture. Modern rooms obtain a splendid accent, classical interiors receive a modern touch. Thanks to the diverse exterior colours, Skygarden adapts to the most diverse styles and colour settings. The ceiling rose always features the same colour as the shade's external side.
Cleaning instructions by the manufacturer: When cleaning the light fixture, please use only soft cloths. It is possible to moist them with water and soap or with a neutral cleaning product. Please, do not use alcohol or solvents!
