The multifunctional lamp May Day by Flos has a price-winning design and sets a clear design statement.
"Mayday" is the urgency signal in the world of radio telephony, and comes from the French "Venez m'aider", reduced to "m'aider" with an English spelling. It owes its name to the fact that it is useful in a range of situations.
It´s shape is reminiscent of simple utility lights used on woking sites. The conical diffuser is made from injection-molded tapered opaline polypropylene which beuatifully contrasts with the bright orange or black handle. The latter also serving as hook to hang the light and cord winder. With its 4.85 m long black cable, a net weight of 900 g and a comfortable switch on the handle, May Day can be placed anywhere. It can be hung on trees or tubing, placed on the ground or on a table. Mayday can serve as a torch, as an auxiliary suspension torch over a dining table, as a pleasant light source on the balcony, as a sturdy light on a workbench or as a decorative statement on a window sill.
The May Day light launched in 2000 was Grcic's first collaboration with the Italian light manufacturer Flos.
In 2020 Flos will launch the May Day Anniversary version: From mid-October 2020, the May Day Anniversary will be available with a light gray aluminum handle.
