Flos Bulbo is the new LED edition of a design by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni dating back to 1957.
The Bulbo light was created especially as an installation for the XI Milan Triennale, and was at the time equipped with a tungsten filament. The new 2019 edition uses an LED filament with very warm white light in its stead, thus translating the appearance and lighting effect of the original into the present time.
Bulbo is a mixture of re-design and ready-made. The naked bulb's simple beauty is put front and centre, but in an altered, radically simplified form. The screw base has been removed and the bulb's neck made smaller. Two cables lead from the ceiling canopy to the glass body and supply it with current. The rounded shape of the 20 cm wide bulb and the visible, glowing filament are enhanced.
Bulbo is made of thin and robust borosilicate glass, whose high transparency allows a look inside the light fixture. The ceiling canopy is made of white polycarbonate, the suspension cables of nylon.
LEDs with a very warm colour temperature of 2200 Kelvin and high colour rendering (IRC 95) come very close to the pleasant light of a classic incandescent bulb.
Thanks to the off-set suspension, both pendants of the Bulbo lamp can be mounted in various positions and make many individual arrangements possible.
Bulbo is dimmable with a TRIAC dimmer.
