Xavier Mañosa

Xavier Mañosa's parents already had a ceramic workshop in Barcelona during his childhood. This is why Xavier was initiated with clay modelling at a very young age. When a young adult, the Catalan was first reluctant to work in his parents' company and moved to Berlin to study industrial design. When away he found interest in ceramics and moved back in 2009 to Barcelona where he has been leading the Apparatu company with his parents. Apparatu is a neologism composed of the German word "Apparat" and the Catalan word "Aparatu".

Xavier Mañosa is famous for his bold designs combining ceramics with various materials to create new expressive shapes. With the studio Mashallah Design he designed the extraordinary Pleat Box and Scotch Club collection. The Berlin-based studio developed the design digitally, while Xavier Mañosa makes the light fixtures by hand. Both collections feature a very remarkable ceramic shade which is coated with white enamel or 18 carat gold inside, creating a beautiful lighting atmosphere. The light fixtures produced by Xavier Mañosa are successfully produced by the Spanish design label Marset.

The family-run busines is now a much in demand place where well-established brands such as Nike, Alessi or Vitra are now clients of Apparatu. Some of Xavier Mañosa's works are also displayed in museums all over the world, as for example in London, Frankfurt, New York, Madrid, Stockholm and Tokyo.
