Tom Dixon was born in 1959 in Sfax in Tunisia and raised in London. In the 1980s, driven by his passion for welding, he created art objects out of scrap metals on the stage of a night club in London. His extraordinary creativity as a performance artist and his interest in experimentation opened him the doors into the world of international design. Diverse styles that unite innovation, glamour and classic English design in an expressive manner, appeal to both young and old. A certain touch of eccentricity can be found in his works, which are nevertheless based on respectable, traditional craftsmanship.

Today, Tom Dixon is reagarded as one of the most significant designers of England, and has reached the international status of a star designer. For his achievements, he was awarded the Order of the British Empire by the Queen of England in 2001. After working in leading positions for several companies, Tom Dixon founded his own company, divided into the branches Tom Dixon Furniture and Tom Dixon Lighting, in 2002.

Tom Dixon's lamps are characterized by modern shapes and aristocratic opulence. Intelligent manufacturing methods have enabled him to create lamps like Copper Shade, whose diffuser is made of synthetic materials but with a metallised surface lending it the posh beauty of shiny precious metals. The collection Melt achieves a fascinating effect with a diffuser coated with reflecting metal, which turns transparent when the light is on, revealing an inner life resembling molten metal. Aside from shiny metallics, Tom Dixon also typically works with glass, marble and brass – materials that speak of opulence and tradition. In combination with modern shapes and clever technologies, they become stylish statement pieces in elegantly furnished hotels, classy boutiques or tastefully decorated private apartments.
