Sylvain Willenz

The Belgian designer Sylvain Willenz designs lights and furniture for renowned international companies, like Petite Friture and Established & Sons.

Willenz was born in Brussels in 1978 and lived in Belgium, in the USA and in Great Britain where he graduated in design at the Royal College of Art in London. He founded his own studio in Brussels in 2004. Today, Willenz is one of Belgium's most influential designers, and was elected Belgian designer of the year in 2009. For his clear, aesthetic and functional designs, he earned significant design prizes, such ss the Red Dot Award and the iF Design Award.

Sylvain Willenz's designs feature clear shapes and a construction accurate in every detail for which material and function play a significant role. One good example is the Torch Light collection he designed for the British label Established & Sons. The soft rubber body lends a playful and original note to the light which rises above its design model - a torch -, but keeps its simple and flexible handling.
