Konstantin Grcic

Konstantin Grcic was born in Munich in 1965. After an apprenticeship as a cabinetmaker, he studied at the London Royal College of Art. Before opening his own workshop in Munich in 1991, he was briefly Jasper Morrison's assistant. The design office "Konstantin Grcic Industrial Design" works for famous brands such as ClassiCon, Driade, Magis, Flos and Vitra. Among other things, Konstantin Grcic designs furniture and light fixtures.

The magazine Art called Grcic "today's most important designer". In 2001 Konstantin Grcic designed the light fixture MayDay for the brand Flos. He was awarded the famous Compasso d'Oro for this design. MayDay is a multifunctional light fixture, which can serve as a task light when performing handicraft, but is also suitable as a suspension lamp or floor lamp in living spaces. In 2008, Konstantin Grcic designed the chair Myto, a cantilever chair, for which he was awarded the iF Product Design Award in 2009 and another Compasso d'Oro in 2011.

Konstantin Grcic worked for the Serpentine Gallery in London as an exhibition designer and also designed the German exhibition pavilion at the 13th Venice Biennale of Architecture. He has had individual exhibitions in Rotterdam, Munich, Chicago and Weil am Rhein. His works are exhibited in the Museum of Modern Art in New York and in the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
