Huub Ubbens

Huub Ubbens was born in 1964 in the Netherlands and completed his studies at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie Amsterdam, a distinguished art academy, in 1993. Then, he was Head of Design at Artemide, Art Director for Danese and made a free-lance career. Next to his designer activity, Huub Ubbens is also teaching in famous universities and offering design workshops all over the world. The Dutchman founded his own design studio in Montpellier, in the south of France, in 2010. The interdisciplinary studio called "Studio Ubbens" specializes in furniture and light design, and design products in the medical and well-being fields with an humanitarian approach. Huub Ubbens can look back on successful cooperations with designers like Vico Magistretti, James Irvine, Naoto Fukasawa and Enzo Mari. He has also been working for renowned companies, such as Alessi, Panasonic, Artemide and Fiat.

Together with the famous Tolomeo designer Michele De Lucchi Ubbens designed the Castore collection for Artemide. Castore won prestigious awards, such as the Red Dot Design Award and the Designplus Award, and a nomination for the Compasso d'Oro.
