Francisco Gomez Paz

Francisco Gomez Paz was born in 1975 in Argentina and studied industrial design at the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba, one of the oldest universities in Latine America. He moved to Milan in 1998 and made a master in design at the famous international Domus Academy. After working some years with the designer Paolo Rizzatto, he founded his own office in Milan in 2004 and designed products for leading brands like Artemide, Driade, Danese, Luceplan and Sector. The "Solar Bottle", a project he developped with Alberto Meda, serves for cleaning drink water in third world countries and made Francisco Gomez Paz world-famous. This produkt was taken into the New York Museum of Modern Art's permanent collection. Besides; the designer works in the field of research and education and gave lectures at Italian and foreign universities.

For Francisco Gomez Paz the development process of his products is linked to his curiosity, his profound knowledge of techniques and materials and his experimental approach. He does not focus on form or function, but has a holistic approach. In the beginning there is always the idea which takes shape over time and after making some decisions. Material quality, possible applications and handling of the product have high priority for Francisco Gomez Paz when designing a light fixture.

In addition to working with many famous design labels, Francisco Gomez Paz has often worked with the Italian company Luceplan. The worldwide famous label created some impressive and often prized light fixtures, like the Mesh collection for Luceplan and the impressive Hope light fixtures. For the latter he was awarded the Good Design Award (2010) and the prestigious Compasso d'Oro which he received together with Paolo Rizzatto in 2011. His Mesh creation won the Red Dot Award in the category "Best of the Best" in 2016.
