Alberto Saggia & Valerio Sommella

Alberto Saggia & Valerio Sommella are Italian industrial designers who have been working together on object-related projects in the field of lighting since 2009. In their works, the designers offer technical visions and an aesthetic approach with the aid of related innovative shapes, materials, technologies and functions. Saggia & Sommella conceived designs among others for the Italian light brands Kundalini, Fabbian and Vistosi.

Alberto Saggia was born in 1978 in Novara, Piedmont, and graduated in industrial design from the Polytechnic University of Milan with light design as a speciality. After completion of his studies, from 2004 on he worked together with the Metis Lighting Studio in Milan where he also took charge of the leadership of the team for product design and customized lighting solutions. Later, he taught at universities and worked freelance on illumination projects and industry design products.

Valerio Sommella was born in 1980 in Cortona, Toscana, and raised in Milan. He graduated from the Polytechnic University of Milan with distinction. During his professional debut, he commuted between Milan and Amsterdam, until he finally founded the Valerio Sommella Design Studio in 2009. He works in collaboration with Italian and international labels and designs for them a large product range, preferably in large quantities. Beside light fixtures and pieces of furniture, he also designs entertainment electronics and accessories. He considers his products not only as a unique book chapter, but as a proper short story with beginning, end and characters of its own.
