About the Collection Bocci 73
The lighting objects of the collection 73 by Bocci are reminiscent of asymmetrical shapes and textured surfaces of mysterious deep sea creatures or soft textiles. The design by Omer Arbel was created in 2012 and was included in Bocci's portfolio in 2015. Today the collection offers a plethora of various models setting fascinating accents as a decorative single piece or as an expanding lighting sculpture. Next to numerous suspensions and ceiling lamps, also wall lamps, table lamps and floor lamps are available. The glass is available in white or in three different grey hues.
The diffusers of 73 are created by blowing a glass body directly in a mould of heat-resistant textile. The fall of the folds and the woven structure of the textile leave an imprint, accurate in every detail, in the fluid glass. The special textile of ceramic fibres comes off without leaving residues from the glass that takes on an asymmetrical shape and a thin structure when it is cold. A light source inside the diffuser fills it with a soft light that stresses details and influences the perception of the object. Each 73 is a one of a kind piece with unique, never repeated properties. As a result, its precise dimensions can vary but the light fixtures feature the same cloud-like, flat basic shape.
The suspensions use suspension systems with which each glass shade is suspended slightly obliquely, as if it would float under water or were whirled up by a draught. Other models set linear metallic structures, among them complex models with branching out arms on which diffusers are in a staggered arrangement.
Two kinds of lamps can be used. The LED version has the advantage of a lower power consumption and a longer life-span, the xenon version has a very natural colour rendering of Ra 100.
In both cases a soft, atmospherical illumination is generated. The light is not strong enough to illuminate a room, but first of all puts to the fore the accurate design of 73. They are less light fixtures than lighting objects that interact with the room in a magical manner.
For the project area, further models and mounting methods are available on request. Depending on the selected version, up to 61 glass diffusers can be combined in one object. The suspensions enable special lengths of up to 30 meters and for ceiling lamps and floor lamps there are special options for rooms with high ceilings. Above a certain number of diffusers, it is not possible for the user to adjust the cable length, but it is made by Bocci. When ordering, the desired minimum and maximum cable length must be mentioned.
