The LED lights 100 by Bocci have unique diffusers of blown and polished glass, manufactured following a special process during which several glass blowers work together. The collection includes various suspensions and a table lamp. It was designed by Omer Arbel, was developped in 2020 and has been included in the Bocci label's portfoglio since 2022.
The characteristical diffuser of 100 is manufactured with a collaborative and remarkably elaborated method. Several glass blowers form each a blown glass ball and they are finally pressed together into a cluster. This light body composed of many parts is treated with a diamond saw by a another glass artisan. Because the balls are partly cut, their inside is revealed.
A hole is drilled in the glass body's upper part for the LED lamp. A silicone diffuser surrounds the LED and ensures that the light is evenly distributed, prior to passing through the glass layers. The material's uneven thickness and the cut glass balls featuring differing shapes ensure a soft, varied lighting effect. Even as a single light, 100 fascinates with its complexity and character. The multiple lights infinitely multiply this complexity.
The glass artist's personal vision decides on size, shape and arrangement of the single glass balls and also on width and position of the holes. They are never planned but come from the creative process itself. Each 100 light is a unique piece with unparalleled details.
Beside the simple white version, the glass diffusers are also available in grey, a version creating even more atmosphere and an especially mysterious lighting. The LED light is not a version strong enough to illuminate the room as a regular light source would do. The 100 lights are to be understood as lighting objects. Their light is primarily atmospherical and serves to direct the attention to the diffuser itself and to showcase its complex beauty.
Next to the here offered suspensions, there are further models available on request and making possible opulent light clusters for the project area. Depending on the desired suspension, it is possible to have up to 28 or 61 diffusers. It must be taken into account that from more than seven diffusers, the cable lengths cannot be adapted by the user, but are determined by Bocci. When ordering, the desired longest and shortest cable lengths must be specified. On request, special lengths up to 30 m are possible.
