About the Collection Baltensweiler Type 600 - 60
The TYPE task lamps go back to Rico and Rosmarie Baltensweiler's first lighting design in 1951, which was initially intended only for personal use. The innovative, elegantly balanced design soon went into series production and led to the founding of Baltensweiler. Today, TYPE is a successful icon of mid-century design. The collection includes a table lamp and two floor lamps. The design has been slightly modernized compared to the original, but the limited edition TYPE 600 Mod. 1951, introduced in 2011, reproduces the original form.
The TYPE lights are made entirely of metal, with the rods being chrome-plated and the other elements being painted. The design is intuitive and functional, based on clear geometric shapes and harmonious proportions. The lamp head and double arm structure can be flexibly adjusted to direct the light.
The lamp head consists of a conical shade and a slender tip. The shape and proportions were revised in 1955: Originally, shade and tip were one single element, the tip slightly conical, the shade with straight sides and the push button clearly visible. For practical reasons, the conical tip became a cylindrical tube, the switch was integrated more unobtrusively and the shade was given a beveled edge for more stability. The table lamp was created on the basis of this revised design, but uses a more compact lamp head. Today, the original design is available again as TYPE 600 Mod. 1951.
The floor lamps also use a round metal screen that is clamped directly onto the bulb. It prevents direct glare regardless of the position of the shade, and rounds off the design with atmospheric light-dark contrasts. The white inside of the lampshade reflects the light and appears as a bright ring, the illuminant itself remaining hidden. Especially by seating areas, next to the sofa or at the desk, the TYPE lamps provide generous, glare-free illumination and stylish visual accents.
