About the Collection Baltensweiler Type
The floor lamp Type 600 is a classic from 1951 and shines with a functional, well-proportioned shape and adjustable reading light. Type 600 remains one of the most popular lights in the Baltensweiler portfolio to date.
Today, the Type 600 floor lamp is produced in a slightly modified design. As an addition to the floor lamp, Baltensweiler has also developed the Type 60 model, which features a related design and exists as a table lamp, clamp lamp and wall lamp.
Rico and Rosmarie Baltensweiler originally designed Type 600 for their own personal use, but the design was so popular with their architect friends that the Baltensweilers soon began the serial production of the delicate reading light, thus starting the success story of the Baltensweiler brand. Type 600 is still one of the most popular and best-known designs of the Swiss family company. Functional, harmoniously proportioned and with clear mid-century aesthetics, Type 600 is a stylish design statement that enriches private apartments, representative rooms, lounge areas and offices alike. One of the early admirers of the Type 600 floor lamp was Le Corbusier, who used the lamp in a model apartment in 1956.
Type 600 is made of metal and has a low and wide, conical shade with a cylindrical top and a small cover for shading the lightbulb. The delicate two-armed structure uses a counterweight to keep the lamp in balance in any position. The chrome-plated frame contrasts beautifully with the shade, base and counterweight, which are black. The small shading cover is clamped directly onto the bulb with a spring. An on/off switch is located on the top of the head, easy to reach.
The 1951 original differed from today's version mainly in the shape of the shade top. It was more conical than cylindrical, the push button more prominently visible. This model is available as the limited reedition Type 600 Mod. 51, in the colors black, white and yellow on request. Older models of the Type 600 had a chrome-plated cylindrical top.
Type 60 differs from its big sister in that it lacks a counterweight and features a less wide funnel-shaped lampshade. Thanks to the double-arm structure, these lights can also be flexibly adjusted and the light can be directed. The on/off switch is located directly on the cylindrical top of the lamp head. Type 600 and Type 60 harmonize perfectly with each other in terms of surface finish and formal language, and can be used very well for uniform lighting concepts in offices, lounge areas or private living spaces.
