About the Collection Artemide Eclisse
The Eclisse table lamps were designed in 1965 by Vico Magistretti for the Italian label Artemide. They were awarded the Compasso d'Oro in 1967, are viewed as a designer classic and exhibited in the Museum of Modern Art's collection in New York. Beside a standard light in four colours, the collection also comprises a special edition with metallized surface.
The light fixtures appeal with a small, roundish shape in remarkable colours, yet above all with their fancy functions. In order to modify the brightness, the internal reflector is adjusted and some of the light is simply shielded. In this way, Eclisse connects form and function in a practical design with self-explanatory handling.
The lamp is located in the ball-shaped light head with an open front. The internal shade can be pushed in such a manner that the hole is completely open, partly covered or completely closed. With its light, Eclisse reproduces the phases of a solar eclipse. The smaller getting aperture makes the light weaker, until there remain only a light crown for pleasant indirect illumination.
The Eclisse light fixtures are made of aluminium and synthetics and equipped with an on/off switch on the electrical cable.
