This luminaire offers great flexibility and mobility on account of the spring balance system with joints and fixations made of polished aluminium as well as cables on guiding wheels. The spring system was first used in the 1930s for the famous "Anglepoise" lamp with the objective of attaining more mobility.
This functional luminaire is delivered together with a polished aluminium base, on which the lighting body can rotate. This version of the celebrated design classic provides an optimal direct and partially scattered reading and task light. A little aperture on top of the conical metallic shade lets through a small light beam. This floor lamp is steerable by way of the black switch located at the head of the lamp.
The Tolomeo was first presented to the public in 1987 on occasion of the famous lighting trade fair "Euroluce" in Italy and was crowned with instant success. This success was confirmed again in 1989, when the two designers Michele De Lucchi and Giancarlo Fassina were awarded the Compasso d'Oro. To this day this lamp is a bestseller that is continuously developed further and is available in a growing number of versions.
