The table lamp Tolomeo Basculante Tavolo by Artemide gives an impression of lightness. The two long and slender adjustable arms of the lamp are from polished aluminium. This luminaire offers great possibilities of flexibility and mobility on account of the system of spring balancing using joints and fixations from polished aluminium as well as cables on guiding wheels. The spring system was first used in the nineteen-thirtees for the famous "Anglepoise" lamp with the aim to achieve more mobility.
The conical shade is available in two different materials and is usually in the vertical position whatever position the arms are in. When the arms have gone through a new adjustment the shade swings back to its usual position in order to send its optimal light downwards in direction of the book or newspaper you are just reading sitting on a chair or sofa. The first version of the shade is from slightly shiny light grey silk satin and looks nearly white as soon as Tolomeo Basculante is on, whereas the shade from stabilized parchment paper in natural colour gives off an extremely warm and pleasant light. This functional luminaire is delivered together with a polished aluminium table clamp
This version of the celebrated design classic spends an optimal direct and partly scattered reading and task light. This lamp can be operated by means of the black switch located at the head of the lamp. The Tolemeo was first presented to the public in 1987 on occasion of the famous light fair "Euroluce" in Italy and received an instant success. This success was confirmed again in 1989, when the two designers were awarded the Compasso d'Oro. To this day this lamp is a best-seller that is continuously developed and is available in a growing number of versions
