About the Collection Artemide Melampo
The Melampo light collection by Artemide was designed by the French designer Adrien Gardère, and combines distinctive classical aesthetics with striking versatility. Melampo was awarded the Red Dot Design Award and the Observeur du Design Etoile in 2001.
The collection comprises table lamps and floor lamps in two sizes, as well as a wall lamp with or without a switch.
The shade is made of silk-satin reinforced with synthetics; the structure is made of aluminium and the bases of the table and floor lamps are made of zamak. There is a choice of two colours: the lamp and the shade in aluminium grey or the lamp in metallized bronze paired with a shade in natural colour. When the light is swiched on, both shades appear white.
Malampo has the appearance of a very classical light fixture, and consists of a conical shade and a simple metallic structure. Devoid of superfluous details, it appeals with clear lines, well-balanced proportions and high functionality, since it is possible to put the shade into different positions to achieve diverse lighting effects. When the shade is in the conventional position, the light shines mostly downwards. When it is slanted or when the wall lamp is slanted, it produces a focussed light convenient for reading. By turning the shade 180 degrees upwards, which is possible with the larger table lamp and every floor lamp, the light is indirectly reflected into the room from the ceiling. A small handle located on the shade facilitates changing its position.
Because of their timeless design, the light fixtures in the Melampo collection adapt harmoniously to nearly every interior. They create a comfortable reading light or, if desired, indirect general illumination. Their high-class materials, and above all the beautiful shade with changing appearance, create an elegant and cozy atmosphere.
