Magis is no common manufacturer of design furniture. It was founded in Northern Italy in 1976 by Eugenio Perazza, then still a newcomer to the furniture business, with the purpose to create mundane household plastic articles. Thereby focussing as one of the first companies on plastics. In the year 2000, for example, Magis introduced Air Chair. It was the world's first single-chair conceived in air moulding. The Sparkling chair by Marcel Wanders follows's in this bestseller's footsteps. It was first exhibited at the Milan furniture fair 2010 and is made from the same material as used for sparkling water bottles, yet filled with high pressure air rather than water.
Although plastic remains one of the main materials used by Magis, designers like Konstantin Grcic, the Bouroullec brothers or Naoto Fukasawa lately used aluminium, wood or cement for their designs for Magis. The Steelwood family combines metal with wood, the Déjà-Vu chair quotes Thonet while being made from aluminium. All in all, the Magis furniture and design objects stand out with unique and practical design, developed during years of research before being manufactured in highest quality. A fact that becomes obvious at first sight of design classics like the Lyra Stool, the fantastic Bombo chairs or the award-winning bottle holder Bottle.
