Maurer is born on the Reichenau island in 1932 and creates since the 1960s extravagant lamps and lighting installations, which his company produces, that is named after himself, and distributes globally. Among his best-known designs are the table lamp Bulb, that has been designed by Maurer 1966, the low-voltage system YaYaHo, available since 1984 or the poetic table lamp One from the Heart since 1989 and the winged bulb Lucellino, available as decorative wall or ceiling lamp since 1992. Ingo Maurer is not only known for his design lights, he is also famous for his impressive commissioned work such as the lighting for the underground station Westfriedhof in Munich, for the noble shopping centre Lafayette Maison in Paris and the lighting installation for Issey Miyake, realised for his fashionshow in Paris and Miyakes showroom in London. Ingo Maurer has received numerous design awards, for example an honorary doctorate degree by the Royal College of Art London and the Design Prize of the Federal Republic of Germany for his lifework.
