Bestlite
Bestlite design lights are the best prove for how eternal good industrial design can be. The Briton Robert Dudley West designed his first lights in the 1930s. As Bauhaus-design was not yet appreciated and accepted in Great-Britain at that time, Best had to face great rejections until the lights could finally go into production at manufacturing firm Best & Lloyd, founded by his family in 1840. Only after a mention in the prominent architectural magazine Architects’ Journal, the architectural community opened its eyes to the lamp’s potential. The lamp named after its founder gained everlasting fame when the English prime minister Winston Churchill placed one on his desk in Whitehall. The Dane Gubi Olsen bought the exclusive production and marketing rights from Best & Loyd in the early 1990s and successfully relaunched them under the brand name Bestlite by Gubi. The simple timeless design and the flexibly adjustable shade of Bestlite lights never came out of fashion and are as popular as ever.
